1. Outcomes of transplantation using unrelated donor stem cells now approach those that can be achieved with sibling donors. In this symposium Dr Stella Davies will review the growth of unrelated donor registries that now offer internet based searching of over 10 million volunteer donors, and discuss the use of improved typing methods, including KIR typing to improve outcomes of transplant. Dr Mary Eapen (Milwaukee) will compare the alternative stem cell sources of marrow , cord blood and PBSC in children with leukemia and offer guidance in donor selection. Lastly, Dr Bobby Gaspar (London, England) will discuss the use of unrelated donor for transplantation of children with Immune deficiencies and HLH using reduced intensity conditioning regimens.
